“There are no exigent circumstances in this case that would justify an order of the Court forcing furloughed attorneys to return to their desks,” Judge Jackson wrote.* “Moreover, while the vast majority of litigants who now must endure a delay in the progress of their matters do so due to circumstances beyond their control, that cannot be said of the House of Representatives, which has played a role in the shutdown that prompted the stay motion.”

The Republican-led US House of Representatives unanimously voted to approve a bill which will see 800,000 workers furloughed during the ongoing partial government shutdown paid once the crisis ends.
The 407-0 vote in the House was a rare moment of bipartisanship within the deeply divided lower house of Congress.
The measure will now be sent to the Senate, which is controlled by the Democrats. The White House announced that President Barack Obama will sign the measure into law once it passes Congress.
"This is not their fault and they should not suffer as a result," Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said of federal workers. "This bill is the least we should do. Our hard-working public servants should not become collateral damage in the political games and ideological wars that Republicans are waging."
Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, said federal workers should not have to worry about paying their bills while the Congress and the White House battle over funding the government.
"They have child care expenses, house payments to make, kids that are in college, and while the president refuses to negotiate, while he's playing politics, they shouldn't worry about whether or not they can make ends meet," Turner said.
In the 1995-96 government shutdowns, furloughed workers were retroactively paid their salaries in full.

Mexican attorney prepares civil lawsuit on Fast and Furious, 06/07/12
A Mexican attorney is preparing a civil lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fireams and Explosives over the Fast and Furious “gunwalking” criminal operation, the Mexican news magazine Proceso reported Tuesday. Diana Eugenia González Saldaña, “in coordination with [a legal] office in Houston, Texas, intends to take legal action…for the damage caused by the operation, whose failure has already been publicly acknowledged by the government of Barack Obama.”
This would be the first case brought by a Mexican plaintiff and González Saldaña says the Texas firm will assist in collecting “50 cases to present a solid [foundation for] a civil complaint” to add to the four cases currently documented, “including that of Mario Gonzalez Rodriguez, brother of the prosecutor the state of Chihuahua…who was kidnapped and killed with one of the two thousand weapons smuggled into the country as part of operation ‘Fast and Furious’.”
