Subject: The Portland NAACP Opposes Adding Fluoridation Chemicals to Our Water!
Dear Friend
Dear Friends,
You
may know that the Portland Branch of the NAACP opposes water
fluoridation here in Portland, and as Chair of the NAACP Veteran's
Committee, I'm proud to be voting NO to adding fluoridation chemicals to
our drinking water. Although some have claimed fluoridation would
benefit communities of color, a recent KATU News poll showed that 59% of
African Americans and 72% of Latinos are opposed to fluoridating
Portland's water.
The fluoridation chemicals that would be added to our water are industrial byproducts of fertilizer manufacturing that we know contain arsenic and other toxins. There
are much more effective, safer ways of protecting kids’ teeth – ways
that don’t pose a health threat to Portlanders and our kids. Children
growing up in communities of color already face risks from many
different environmental chemicals and they do not need more chemicals added to their drinking water.
Fluoridation
chemicals are also a risky proposition for those suffering from
diabetes and people whose immune systems have been damaged by toxic
chemicals – such as military veterans exposed to chemicals on the battlefield. As a veteran, that’s a very personal issue for me, and one more reason I am urging Portlanders to vote NO on fluoridation chemicals.
Clean Water Portland needs your help to protect the Rose City’s water supply. How?
Forward this video to your friends and neighbors. Share it on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms.
Tell everyone in your office, school, congregation or club about May’s election and why you are voting NO on fluoridation.
Volunteer to phone voters or go door-to-door to spread the word.
Make a donation of $50, $100, $250 or more to help buy moreradio ads like the one we link to here. Your support will help counter the big money of fluoridation interests and make sure our message is heard in the media.
This campaign is not just important for keeping Portland’s water clean. It’s being watched nationwide, as more and more people learn about the health risks of fluoridation chemicals in water and that there are better ways to protect children’s dental health. So please, do all you can.
Thank you,
Clifford Walker

“What we do to our drinking water we do to our rivers,”
says tribal elder Linda “Lamoosh” Meanus, the granddaughter of the
great Celilo Falls tribal chief Tommy Thompson. “Salmon are sacred to us
and adding fluoridation chemicals to the rivers where salmon live when
we know it harms them is not right.”
